Sculpture Steppe wisent life-size model
This steppe wisent sculpture stands 225 cm high.
Bison priscus was part of the Pleistocene megafauna. The prehistoric wisent lived alongside the other giant herbivores of the so-called Ice age. For example the famous Woolly Mammoths and Rhinos. It was very abundant in the scenery of the period and roamed the plains in their millions. It would be a common prey species for the Sabre-toothed cats and giant short-faced bears among others.
The model is very lifelike and accurate. It was reconstructed from a composed skeleton and will be displayed next to it in the ‘’Mammoetsteppe’’ at the museum Historyland in Hellevoetsluis.
