Minke whale scale model

This minke whale scale model is approximately 45 cm long.

Balaenoptera acutorostrata is the smallest member of the Balaenoptera family. Which includes the Blue whale, the largest animal that ever lived on earth.  Compared to these, they are quite ‘’small’’ with a length of about 8m as opposed to the nearly 30m of the blue whale.  They are all filter feeders who use their bristly baleens to sift plankton out of the water taking in huge mouthfuls of seawater.  They are a common prey species for Killer whales.
