Leatherback turtle scale model
Approximately 35 centimeters long
The leatherback turtle, Dermochelys coriacea, is the largest living sea turtle today. Weighing up to 600 kilograms with a length of 2 meters, therefore an impressive creature by any standards. Sea turtles predominantly feed on jellyfish. Unfortunately, they often mistake plastic bags for them.
The leatherback turtle scale model was used for digital rendering at the museum of Historyland. A 3D scan was made for a realistic movie about marine life. The animation contains other scale models that are to be seen on this site. Such as the megalodon, Nehalaennia devossi, and the Livyatan Melvillei. The motion picture can be seen in the historical museum Historyland, Hellevoetsluis.
